A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones (Ecclesiastes 3:5)

Having laid out our treasures before us, we must take stock of our achievements. For 27 years, the Mohrytsia community, like a primordial broth, has been giving birth to a unique multiverse of Ukrainian creators. Infused with herbs and stars, it shimmers with countless stories, like sunlight reflected on the leaves of a sprawling tree. It is time to peer into this diverse whirlwind and recognise the importance of the cultural phenomenon that has formed in the village of Mohrytsia, Sumy district, Sumy region, Ukraine—just five kilometres from the state border.

For the fourth consecutive year, the community has been grappling with the loss of its centre of creative life. This is not merely a location destroyed daily by Russian bombs, nor simply a landscape losing its recognisable features, nor only a collection of artworks created in this place; it is, literally, a living body of the history of Ukrainian land art. And now, more than ever, it is crucial to bring the ineffable mental experience of the community into the visible sphere.

With the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation (@ucf.ua), we have launched a project to preserve and study this vast layer of cultural achievements produced by hundreds of artists who, year after year, immersed themselves in this singular fusion of love, freedom, and creativity. We have examined all the works created on the site or associated with it, tracing the paths and contexts of their creation.

As a result, we compiled a web archive—a guidebook, a digital imprint of the processes that unfolded over 27 years, accessible to anyone wishing to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Mohrytsia community. And while our land remains silent, we will speak for it and about it.
