The year 2003 continued the theme of the “Cretaceous Period”, emphasising not only spatial explorations of the landscape but also the understanding of time as both a geological and cultural factor. The artists concentrated on observing transformations of the terrain and recording the traces of time inscribed in reliefs, layers and natural fissures.

Natalia Kokhan’s work “Road” combined a spatial gesture with a symbolic reading of time: a white fabric, sewn along the ravine, stretched from its source to the point where it joined the river, creating a visual trajectory of movement and the formation of the relief. Ganna Gidora’s “Collection of Layers” investigated the geological and archaeological strata of an eighteenth-century chalk quarry, where traces of a Scythian-Slavic settlement had been discovered. The work treated time as a material structure in which the history of human activity intertwined with deep natural processes.

Andrii Bludov and Oleksii Malykh’s project “Union” connected two opposing riverbanks with orange “bridges.” This intervention functioned as a symbolic act of transition between spaces, times and meanings. Andrii Hurenko created reflective objects that appeared to send signals to the sky—a gesture expanding the horizon of artistic action to a cosmic scale.

The work of Kostiantyn Donin took the form of a collective performative cycle: he photographed the imprints of participants’ faces in the riverside mud, creating a surreal “gallery” of temporary portraits. Ihor Shvachunov, in his piece “Ice Age”, constructed ice towers on a chalk hill that gradually melted in the sun, addressing themes of changeability, fragility and time.

As in previous years, the final exhibition took place at the Soviart Centre for Contemporary Art, demonstrating the growing visual and conceptual sophistication of the works created in Mohrytsia.
